WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Ok, so here is our word for today: nomophobia. Nomophobia is the fear of being without a mobile device. The term is an abbreviation for “no-mobile-phone  phobia”.  It is such a statement about our culture.

Simon Sinek author of “Start with Why”, a book I would highly recommend, did an interview where he speaks to this issue and others. Though the talk is aimed at Millennials in the workplace, I know plenty of Boomers who need to hear this. And if you’re a Boomer who has a Millennial child or grandchild, please take the time to view it. Likewise to you Millennials, I think you will find it insightful.

You may or may not agree with him…I would love to hear your thoughts.

It’s a new day…live it!

  1. Thanks Joe. I found that very clarifying. Millennials are sometimes hard to understand, yet they will be raising the children of tomorrow. We need to give them the tools they need to grow. What a changing world we live in. The group of people who find technology to be second nature is really feeling under confident. Maybe we’re too amazed at what they know to think we need to teach them.

      yes I agree

  2. Thank you for sharing that Joe. I think it was wonderful when Simon said that life is more enjoyable and innovative without that incessant cellphone. Human interaction is so important, and not texts as good wishes on holidays and birthdays.

  3. Imagine performing on a TV/Radio show in NYC and looking up to see the sound guy texting away oblivously… The Mic levels were so off I almost got up from the set and adjusted it myself. And I wanted to smash his device. Of course I didn’t do that as those poor Millennials wouldn’t understand why I was so upset in the first place.

I think as boomers, we need to take a step forward and teach them what is proper and what is not in the business world…as technology has seemingly robbed some of their manners and brains. Just sayin’… This isn’t about generations…it is about common sense!! Be BIG!
